About Tribeca
Tribeca Strategic Advisors, LLC is an independently-owned alternative risk and captive insurance consulting and management company. We are not affiliated with any insurance company or insurance brokers. Our specialty is 
the design, implementation, licensure and management of captive insurance companies. Tribeca has been managing captive insurance companies since 1999. Tribeca Strategic Advisors, LLC has been ranked among the 10 largest captive managers worldwide. (BI Survey, Largest Captive Managers Worldwide, Business Insurance, March 8, 2010, page 10.)
Tribeca manages captive insurance companies and programs for clients throughout the United States. Tribeca’s staff includes attorneys, CPAs, account managers, underwriters and other insurance management personnel.
Tribeca provides turn-key captive management services. Our services begin with the initial feasibility study, continue through formation, and include full captive management services.
Because of our turn-key approach, we are able to deliver efficient and affordable captive management services, and avoid the confusion resulting from multiple firms, each providing only a portion of the management service.
Executive Management
Karl N. Huish
PresidentKarl Huish has extensive experience with insurance company formation and management. He graduated cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a member of the University of Chicago Law Review and a recipient of the John M. Olin Student Fellowship in Law & Economics. A National Merit Scholar, he graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University with a B.A. in Economics, and minors in Japanese and Music. Karl is an attorney licensed with the state of Arizona.
James Tehero
Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating OfficerJames Tehero is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Arizona, and brings more than 25 years of business management and accounting experience to Tribeca. His diverse background includes human resources, manufacturing, software development, finance, and national sales and distribution. Jim graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Accounting and a minor in Economics. Afterward, Jim earned his MBA at the University of Phoenix. He is married with five children, 9 grandchildren, and is very active in his community.
Jeremy Huish
Director of Business DevelopmentJeremy Huish is an attorney and Certified Public Accountant, licensed in Arizona. Prior to joining Tribeca, he spent 7 years in Washington, D.C. as a tax attorney for a Big 4 accounting firm and an international law firm. His experience includes international, federal, state and local tax matters, including experience advising the largest U.S. banks on the taxation of their U.S. and foreign clients. Jeremy has two accounting and two law degrees: a B.S. in Accounting from Arizona State University, a Masters in Accounting from Brigham Young University, a Juris Doctorate from Brigham Young University, and a LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University. He is married with three young sons who keep him busy.
Derek Taylor
Tax and Audit ManagerDerek Taylor was with a public accounting firm for over 6 years before joining Tribeca in January 2008. He worked in the audit department where he was an experienced senior auditor. He brings years of accounting and auditing experience dealing with entities in various industries: manufacturing, real estate, mortgage, other professional services, warehousing, wholesale and nonprofit. He earned a B.A. in Accountancy from Arizona State University, and holds an active CPA license in the state of Arizona.
Gordon Gotzinger
Director of Alternative Risk TransferGordon Gotzinger brings more than 37 years of insurance industry experience ranging from Senior Vice President of one of the largest independent retail brokers in the Southwest United States to President of a retail insurance broker insuring some of the largest companies in the US. For the past several years, his focus has been on combining his insurance industry experience with the evolving Alternative Risk marketplace to provide alternatives to traditional methods of financing and risk management.
Bruce Slapper
Alternative RiskBruce Slapper has been in retail/wholesale insurance business for 31 years. He has a vast range of insurance expertise ranging from brokering multinational accounts, creating and administering national programs, to captives and alternative risk design and placement. For the last several years, Bruce has been a captive/alternative risk national resource for two of the largest retail insurance brokers in the U.S. His expertise covers a varied client base and is focused upon client risk solutions. Bruce has a BS degree from Colorado State University and a MA degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
Merilee Edwards
Senior Captive ManagerMerilee Edwards is a graduate of Arizona State University School of Accountancy, and possesses extensive experience in captive insurance management. Merilee has worked with various captive types such as RRGs, agency captives, association / group captives, and pure captives. She is experienced in captive formation, day-to-day management, redomestication, audits, and captive liquidations. She has managed captives domiciled in Arizona, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Vermont, Anguilla, and the British Virgin Islands.
